Yemen’s Interior Ministry has announced the arrest of several members of a joint U.S.-Israeli-Saudi intelligence network and the dismantling of its operational hub. Officials said the network had been engaged in espionage and sabotage targeting Yemen’s military, security, and defense sectors.

Driving the news:

The Yemeni Security and Intelligence Service, affiliated with the Ansarullah movement, announced on Saturday that it had uncovered “a spy network linked to Mossad and the CIA.”

“The United States and Israel have for decades played espionage and subversive roles within official and unofficial institutions to serve the enemy,” the statement said.

Why it matters:

The revelation highlights how Western and Israeli intelligence services have long sought to destabilize independent nations in the region and undermine movements resisting their hegemony. The discovery also exposes the extent of Washington and Tel Aviv’s covert operations aimed at weakening Yemen’s sovereignty and obstructing its indigenous defense and technological capabilities.

Key points:

  • The network reportedly operated through multiple small, independent cells receiving instructions from a joint operations center.
  • American officers used their diplomatic posts at the U.S. Embassy to conduct sabotage activities.
  • Following the embassy’s closure, members continued their missions under the cover of international organizations.
  • The statement described the network as “the main arm implementing American and Israeli schemes in Yemen.”

Zoom in:

The  Yemeni agency said the network provided the CIA and Mossad with highly sensitive military and security information over several decades. It reportedly influenced Yemeni government decisions, infiltrated officials, and facilitated the passage of laws serving foreign interests.

The network also recruited economists and oil and trade company owners, linking them to U.S. and Israeli intelligence.

Between the lines:

Yemeni officials said the spy ring advanced “projects that aimed to destroy Yemen’s educational system and detach it from construction and development.” The statement also said the network targeted agricultural research centers, seed reproduction facilities, and public health programs, leading to “the spread of diseases and epidemics in various provinces.”

"The spy network worked to implement plans targeting Yemen’s religious identity, values, and traditions,” it added.

Yemen’s disclosure comes amid broader efforts by Ansarullah forces to counter the Western and Israeli interference in the region.
